It’s not an exaggeration to say that our guests love the Adirondack’s gorgeous lakes and ponds. Whether they’re looking for a beautiful hike, a place to swim or paddleboard, or just a great spot to sit and enjoy the view all the options are close by Moreno’s Cabins.
Here are few of our favorite lakes and ponds:
Mirror Lake: This Adirondack gem of a lake is known for crystal clear water, and because its shore runs along Lake Placid there are plenty of things to do. Lake Placid Public Beach is on the south end of the lake and features a pier, launch site, tennis courts, and a playground. Fishing is popular on Mirror Lake, where anglers cast for bass, perch, and trout. Lake Placid’s Central Park trail is great for a scenic, leisurely trek. The flat, 2.7-mile loop goes around the lake and through the Village of Lake Placid.
Tupper Lake: This large, peaceful lake with a sandy beach in nearby Franklin County is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy hiking, fishing, camping, and water sports. The small town of Tupper Lake is also home to several popular hiking trails, including the popular Tupper Lake Triad, where hikers get a great view of the water. The Triad consists of three mountains: Mount Arab, Coney Mountain, and Goodman Mount. These peaks can all be hiked in one day and you’ll earn a triad patch.
Saranac Lake: Saranac Lake is a series of three interconnected lakes: Upper Saranac Lake, Middle Saranac Lake, and Lower Saranac Lake. It’s known for its clear water and scenic beauty and offers a plenty of recreational opportunities, including boating, fishing, swimming, and kayaking. Surrounded by gorgeous mountain views, Saranac Lake is one of the largest lakes in Adirondack Park at about 25 square miles.
Lake Flower: Lake Flower is popular for paddle boarders and kayakers looking for an easily accessible spot to launch. Located in the center of downtown Saranac Lake, the paddle offers a great view of the downtown area and the surrounding peaks. If you point your bow toward Oseetah Lake, you’ll head into the heart of the wilderness area, where you’ll spot natural wildlife, including blue herons and loons.
McKenzie Pond: This huge, 237-acre pond is located at the foot of Mount Baker and about a mile east of Moody Pond. The shore is almost entirely state-owned and most of the area is part of the McKenzie Mountain Wilderness Area. It’s a short 2-mile hike in the from the main road just outside Saranac Lake, but it’s worth the walk. Hikers will enjoy the Jackrabbit Trail, and rock climbers claim the area offers some of the best bouldering in the Adirondacks.
