Best Fishing Spots Near Saranac Lake, NY

The area around our Saranac Lake cabins offers a variety of fishing opportunities, from lakes and ponds to rivers and streams. Depending on the fish species you’re interested in and whether you plan to paddle, boat or fish from shore, here are some of the best fishing spots in and around Saranac Lake.

Lake Flower

Lake Flower offers excellent fishing for northern pike, especially along the shoreline in spring. The Lake Flower boat launch is located right off River Street, across from Fusion Market, and features a hard-surface ramp with dock space for loading and unloading.

Lake Colby

Lake Colby in Saranac Lake, NY is stocked annually with rainbow trout and brown trout, as well as a small amount of landlocked salmon. While the DEC boat launch on Route 86 is permanently closed, the Lake Colby Public Beach on Moir Road is ideal for launching kayaks and canoes, and our Lake Colby Vacation House Rental is located directly on the lake.

Lower Saranac Lake

With its many islands and shoals, Lower Saranac Lake is a prime location for largemouth bass fishing. The public boat launch at Second Pond features a hard-surface ramp and ample parking for launching motorized boats, while the launch at Ampersand Bay Road is suitable for hand launching.

Middle Saranac Lake

The shoals around Shaw Island on Middle Saranac Lake provide the perfect habitat for smallmouth bass fishing. Although motorized watercraft are permitted, the nearest launch is South Creek Fishing Access Site on Route 3, which is hand launch only.

Oseetah Lake

Located two miles south of Saranac Lake, NY, Oseetah Lake is known for its strong northern pike population. Boat access is via the Second Pond boat launch, an approximately 6-mile trip through the Lower Locks, or Lake Flower boat launch, which is approximately 2 miles by water.

McKenzie Pond

Located in the McKenzie Mountain Wilderness, McKenzie Pond is known for its bass fishing, particularly largemouth bass. Park at the Jackrabbit trailhead on McKenzie Pond Road and make the 2-mile hike into the pond.

Saranac River

The Saranac River in Saranac Lake, NY offers great fishing opportunities, particularly for trout. The upper section, accessible from the Saranac Lake River Walk, is known for brown and rainbow trout.
