Top 5 Summer Activities in Lake Placid, NY

If you like fresh air, sunshine, lakes and mountains, Lake Placid is the summer place to be. From hiking, biking, and paddling to strolling along the shops and restaurants on Main Street and enjoying an outdoor concert, we’ve rounded up our top 5 favorite Lake Placid summer activities within 10-20 minutes of our Lake Placid cabin rentals.

  1. Summer Hiking in Lake Placid

Our favorite summer hikes typically include a pond or lake for cooling off, like the Brewster Peninsula Boundary & Ridge Trail Loop on the shores of Lake Placid, or the short, relatively easy hike to Owen Pond and Copperas Pond. For a little more elevation gain, we recommend the 2-mile out and back Mount Jo Trail or the more challenging 11-mile loop on the Indian Head & Rainbow Falls Trail.

  1. Biking on the Adirondack Rail Trail

The Adirondack Rail Trail is a scenic, multi-use trail system that connects Lake Placid, Ray Brook, Saranac Lake, Lake Clear and eventually Tupper Lake. It’s gentle grade and firmly packed stone dust surface, make for an easy, scenic summer bike ride between Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. You’ll also find excellent fishing opportunities along the waterways that run adjacent to the trail.

  1. Paddling on Mirror Lake

Canoe, kayak, standup paddleboard or aqua bike around this beautiful 128-acre, one-mile-long lake in the center of Lake Placid Village. While electric motorboats are permitted, gas-powered motors are not, making Mirror Lake ideal for a leisurely summer paddle. If you’re up for it, watching a sunrise on the open water is truly breathtaking.

  1. Swimming at Lake Placid Public Beach

Located at the south end of Mirror Lake in downtown Lake Placid, you’ll find a sandy beach with lifeguards, a designated swimming area, a pier and a floating dock. There’s also a changing facility, tennis courts, and a playground, as well as a dog beach and launch site for canoes, paddleboards and kayaks. Lake Placid Public Beach is also a great spot to watch the Fourth of July Fireworks.

  1. Free Outdoor Concerts in Lake Placid

There’s nothing like sitting on the lawn at Mid’s Park in downtown Lake Placid on a beautiful summer evening, listening to live music against the beautiful backdrop of Mirror Lake. The Songs at Mirror Lake concert series hosts different artists every Tuesday night, starting in July through mid-August, and Lake Placid Sinfonietta orchestra concerts are held on Wednesdays.
